Default Eletrical problem, any ideas?

Alright heres the back ground of my problem. I was driving along and i noticed my speedo wasnt working, thought it was odd but meh whatever. later that day my car dies so i check the alternator and it isnt working. I get the alternator checked and it shows that its fine. I check my fuses and the 15amp ECU fuse is blown which the alternator is also on. I replace the fuse and all is good for about a week and then the fuse blows again. Now as soon as i put a new fuse in and turn the key to the start position (not even actaully starting it) the fuse blows. I did disconnect the gauge cluster, thinking there may be a short in it somewhere but it still blew the fuse with that disconnected.

So im looking for any help i can get on this before i take it to a dealer and they charge me a ton of cash just to find out what the problem is.

Wow. I just had this exact problem over the weekend. I was out of town so I had to take it to a shop to get it fixed. The problem was with a group of wires somewhere under the intake manifold, according to the mechanic. They had worn down over time and shorted out. The problem was affecting tons of different circuits, including the speedometer and the fuse you're talking about, and it apparently burned out my alternator. EXACTLY the same symptoms.

Too cool that someone had a similar problem, well sorry that it happened to you too lol. just as a follow up, how much did it run you for the guy to fix it?

Originally they thought it was just an alternator replace, and quoted me at something like $369 for the alternator, and $160 labor, for a total of $529. It ended up taking a lot more labor time because of the extra wiring, and they replaced the wires and harness, but they actually stuck to the $529 quote. I'm not sure how your case will compare, but should be less I imagine if you don't need to buy an alternator. I hope it works out well for you!

This happened to my friends car after 1500$ of electrical work that didnt fix the problem he got a o2 sensor malfunction cel, took it to a shop to fix it and discovered that the o2 sensor had grounded and that was the cause of his blown ecu fuse.. his car would just shut off while driving it was baaaddd... good luck mang.
