Default please help!

well ive been having problems with my 1996 civic ex. it kept on blowing the #15 fuse(alternator\speedo) and was not charging the battery, well i replaced the alternator and its now charging the battery until the fuse blows again. i can replace the fuse, start the car and have no problems and fuse does not blow. as soon as i start driving the car it goes for a min then the speedo stops working, i stopped and checked the fuse and it was blown. so its only blowing the fuse when i start driving. so im thinking its my speedo that keeps blowing the fuse. anyone else have this prob? also im looking for a used instrument cluster for CHEAP so i can see if thats the problem. let me know if anyone out there has one they will sell me cheap and also some more info or another solution to this problem. thanks alot

chris

Its not the cluster thats causing you problems. You probably have a short somewhere in the system. Follow the wires wherever they go and make sure nothing is out of the ordinary.

Have you been messing around in that area lately doing anything electrical....well, anything at ALL?

thats REALLY weird man and I feel for ya for sure.

Before you buy a cluster since they usually arent cheap...and I mean cheap like under 50 bucks, see if you can borrow one from anybody just to see if it helps at all.

I mean..it COULD be the cluster for sure, but I'd want to be certain of it before you spent any money you didnt have to. I wish you lived in NJ because i'd let you try mine to see if that was the problem.

Try taking the cluster out all together and drive around that way and see if it blows any fuses as there would still be power going through the harnesses with the cluster unplugged so if it was an electrical problem it will still blow the fuses. If nothing happens and all is well then I would say its the cluster.

Do that if you can, and let us know what happens! Good luck man!

well i got good news guys, i fixed my car. ends up the problems wasnt the cluster or the alternator. it ends up my secondary O2 sensor wires were rubbing throught on the heat sheilding on the cat converter. i fixed wires and taped up. replaced fuse, drove around and wala! it didnt blow the fuse and everything went fine. i know there are a few people on here having similar problems. if your having the same prob i hope you read this post.....anyways thanks alot guys and good luck to all you others
