mini-ME !!! It is kinda hard and expensive to find after market parts for zc's, The mini-me uses any d-series intake, header, and you only need to upgrade ONE CAM instead of too, plus Vtec is need O...

what the hell you talking about?? man i'm sick of these kids quoting **** they read somewhere on the internet. i had a ZC for 3 YEARS, and there wasn't a single part i couldn't get for that motor. a ZC is a D-SERIES for the most part, so almost everything is interchangable.

regarding which one is better, it's a toss up. i've heard they put out about the same power.

I personally know a guy who has had both motors in his hatch. He had one of the first mini-me's around and now has a ZC. He said the mini-me was ok, but the ZC is hands down faster and more reliable (which doesn't say much for the mini me since the ZC isn't known for reliability).

alrite, this decision depends totally on if u wanna turbo or jus stay NA tuned...both engines have teh same horsepower, 130HP, but both weigh differently since the ZC is DOHC, and teh MINI-ME(D16Y8) is SOHC....both are direct bolt ins, but for teh D16Y8, u needa change the wiring to run the VTEC, and for ZC, jus ask around, i dunno much about that swap.... but D16Y8 would have a good NA tuned setup since VTEC doenst run good with turbo's,...light weight engine with lots of potential( its known as a great Autocross killer!!)......ZC on the other hand, is non VTEC, but is a great engine for turbo tuners! DOHC Turbo tuned honda engine! theres nothin wrong with that at all!...theres a video around with a turbo ZC EF running around in japan's Touge ( mountain roads) so look out for that, or unless ne one here has that link, hook it up! i wanna see that piece again!)

Welp...Ive got the whole D16z6 in my EF hatch.....i guess thas near a mini me.....if you wanna SOHC VTEC just do the whole swap..now thats reliability, and boy does mine pull hard low end AND high end...as far as tuning parts go, its true that you WILL have some problems finding parts for the ZC than the SOHC...im talking about aftermarket not stock honda(timing belts, seals, etc..ne one can find that ish) honestly...theyre still making new parts fer the darn SOHC...sooo...its up to you...if you wanna DOHC with 130 bhp..or a SOHC VTEC with 127bhp...its up to you...just dont go crying when you break something on your ZC and you have to come on the board to see what the hell part number is compatible with the motor....

In this case VTEC does not effect FI... Only the intake valves have the extra lobes. So you do not get the overlap, compared to a DOHC.

Well, I am the perfect person to ask on this question since I have done both setups Mini Me and ZC, both NA and both Turbo. My mini me was a d15b2 with a z6 head.

Here are my 1/4 mile times, (only for turbo)

ZC running 6psi (intercooled) Crower cams 13.5 (si tranny)
Mini-me running 8.5 psi (intercooled) (stand alone fuel/spark management) Dx tranny 13.5

in my opinion the ZC still felt like it pulled harder then the mini me, even in NA form. Plus tunning the mini-me was just a bitch for a turbo so it would not detonate, the high compresson makes it tough.

Good luck

I am going to go with the ZC on this one. If it was a full sohc Vtec swap I would say it would be a pretty close choice but the reliability of the mini-me really starts to get me thinking about how long the swap might last.

IMO, both are a waste of time. It is not that much more money to get a b16a1, and the performance increase is amazing. Not to mention the mass amounts of aftermarket parts for b series motors.

Sorry, I'll restate that. In my opinion VTEC Sucks!!! Seriously, I don't see the point of it when you can build an engine just as cheaply as a sohc vtec and see the same results with better torque. I know, I know kinda one sided and its up to the individual. I just don't like getting **** on by Honda owners that think VTEC is king and rules with an extra lobe per valve, or 2 in most cases.

BTW, I'm turbo ZC and the HF badge is to add to my mischief.

The B16 swap is going to cost 2 to 3 times what the ZC will. In my book that is "much more money".

I haven't tried any of those as of yet, but I've been watching the posts to see what everyone's opinion has been(btw, trinity, I HAVE done the search) but I will say this, sometimes it takes 5 threads to answer one question, in the end it all comes down to...
1. Money
2. Application
3. Money
4. Did I say money?

Anyway, that's my take, I've learned a lot from what everyone else has said and that's what I think...

IMO... d16a6. I had the mini-me setup.. wasnt very happy with it. Considered getting a ZC.. Absolutely no way to smog one in California, and i was overall unimpressed by it.. The best way to go is B16 of course. Other than that the d16a is a nice motor.. build it, turbo it and you will be very happy. The minime is fun, but it will leave you dissapointed if you dont TUNE, TUNE, TUNE. A lot of people overlook the potential of a d16a motor.. I have a Web cam, prospeed ECU, port polish and milled head, intake, 2 1/4 exhaust piping, stock muffler.. and i can surprise a lot of cars.. with a HF TRANNY!! id just like to say HF tranny sucks.. 90mph in second gear.

my friend has one in his rex and it just got rearended at 70 mph. He wants to sell me his engine for cheap to put in my si hatch but i don't know if ill be happy. I have been considering a 94^ ls for a bit because of all the torque whats the zc got?

Is everyone deaf dumb or stupid? hehe j/k well I mean the post is mini-me not d16z6 or y8 whatever vs zc, its mini-me and i read a few posts where mini-me;s were around 115-120hp since its still a dx or si bottom end, and of course it would be slower than a zc, but the big issue was price, you can get an vtec head cheaper than u could the zc swap. Just depends if u want a cheap solution. Now what I would do is just save your damn money for a better motor, unless your just to jumpy to try and go fast. Might as well save up and well get something 2x as good hell read the classifieds on h-t here , lots of good parts for sale. Either swap isn't gunna be all that great as far as expecting to beat some fast cars, maybe beating something stock, but a modded car either of those swaps aren't gunna cut it, now with money anything is possible.
