Long story short:

I missed a shift, and rev'd my b18b1 to around 7500-7600 rpms. That is pretty much the first time the car has seen anything over say 6500k. I bought the car with a chipped ecu and apparently the rev limit is not set to where it should be, it's a chipped p28.

The motor is well maintained but I'm worried because the internals are all stock. The car runs fine, no bogging, ticking or smoke. I'm just wondering if my pretty much stock b18b1 can handle hitting 7600 ONCE and not suffer from any problems. I'm gonna take the valve cover off and take a look later most likely, just to be safe.

if there was anything wrong with it you would have noticed. i wouldn't take it up to 7600 again (just in case you were thinking about it). especially on stock internals.

 

should be fine, and a revlimiter wont stop the motor from revving if you downshift to 2nd going 70mph, then your just screwed. If the motor is running fine, then you are probably ok. be more careful next time

 

the rev limiter wont help you on a missed shift, its only kicks in while free revving or when your in a gear flooring it. If it runs fine, most likely it is fine...just keep your senses sharp for anything unusual (sounds, smells etc.)

 

Thanks a bunch guys. And yeah, Philosofy, the car does not get driven hard at all. I try to keep it safe on public streets. And yea, this was me trying to power shift in 3rd, not catching the gear and free reving it to 7600. Thats why I was concerned about the rev limit. Was merging onto the freeway.

is this true when u mishift...there is no redline at all...meaning fuel cut ?

 

if you mean to downshift to 4th, and you miss it and go to 2nd, your engine will wind up until it matches with the speed of the tranny, which will be over the redline, your fuel cut off and rev limiter will not help you at all. PERIOD

 

none at all.
the rev limiter only work if you're already in a gear...or in nutural, then you'll "bounce" off of it.

if you're fifth and down shift to second, then you will have a viewing hole in your block.

 

and bye bye motor ! what i meant what if ur on a drag strip and mis shift

 

if you go into a lower gear, there is nothing to save you

it doesn't matter if your at the strip, track, or taking grandma to church. if you misshift into a high rpm kiss you motor good bye (in most cases)!

or you float a valve and bend some valves. I see that fairly often with Preludes
