Default Is there a stock cyl. compression spec for doing compression tests?

Just did a comrpession test on my '00 B18C1. Only mods are generic filter and no cat with WS2 bolted right up to stock header.

225-224-223-223psi

I only have a Haynes manual, and I've been searching HT for a while for OEM specs. I came across a few links searching google that said stock compression for my engine is 270!! 270??? That's awfully high. After searching HT for quite a while it seems the average is 215-240. I guess that would put me right in the middle. FWIW, I'm maybe 200ft above sea-level.

I was told my engine had ~73k on it when it was pulled. Probably hasn't had a valve adjustment in a while. Perhaps the valves aren't openning 100%.

Anyone have stock specs from Honda? I'm going to turbo this motor soon, and want to make sure its in the best health it can be.

Someone would correct this for me, I read from helms that the compression should be somewhere 230, with less than 20psi variation between cylinders. not 100% sure.

thats a healthy motor you got there, be happy.. 270 .. eh.. no. anywhere over 200 is ideal compression.

Good numbers. I just replaced my rings about a year ago and I am pulling ~250 psi across the board, so those numbers look excellent.

That's so strange to hear...

Coming from owning an MR2... their compression spec is 165psi. If I were to test at 140psi, I'd say it's getting near time for a rebuild.

My GSR at 225psi is 25-40psi below spec and everyone says it's very healthy... strange.

According the the factory service manual (I have a hard time believing these numbers), nominal compression is 270 psi (probably from the factory), minimum compression is 140 psi, and the maximum variation between cylinders should be no more than 28 psi.
