5W30 is the viscosity recommended by Honda in the owner's manual and service manual. It is preferred at all temperatures. Optionally, 10W30 can also be used if the outside temperature doesn't go below 20 degrees F, but 5W30 is still preferred.

100 percent synthetic oil is beneficial; it is more resistant to breakdown when the oil gets hot, and it flows better when cold. It's better than any conventional oil, but it's also more expensive; it's up to you to decide whether to spend the extra money for synthetic.

If you like Mobil 1, Wal-Mart sells it cheaper than anywhere else (even Costco or Sam's Club) - $5.47 per quart, and $21.97 for a 5-quart jug. However, Pennzoil Platinum (also 100 percent synthetic) is a better deal; you can get it at Wal-Mart for $3.97 per quart and $18.97 for a 5-quart jug, and then get a $15 rebate on a purchase of six quarts.

We've been using Mobil 1 and, more recently, Pennzoil Platinum (both 5W30) in our GS-R with 140K+ miles...

Start with 5w30, if it burns, go to a high milage oil (MaxLife or Castrol HM), and go to 10w30. They have seal sweller that helps leaks.

Funny, you have the same mileage on your '94 GS-R as we do on ours!

135k is not a lot of miles. when you're up to 200k range then you should be talking about a higher viscosity. Unless your car is burning oil like crazy then you should consider it.
