radiator core support replacement help
I searched and found one thread with a little info. The task im trying too accomplish is changing out my radiator core support. the vehicle is an EK 96 sedan. The current core support is thrashed n trashed bent too hell. I read there is about 40 spot welds ill have too drill out. That is about the only information i found. What else is there too do? Im pretty handy when it comes too fabbing stuff. I have a lincoln 135 mig welder in my garage, will that be enough for the job or do you guys reccomend tigging it? Anybody who has helped or done this job there self please chime in. Thanks
If I am not mistaking there are a couple bolts that need to be removed, like it was on mine. But other than that, just drilling out the tack welds is the biggest job.
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com will be able to get you a core for next to nothing I am sure.
All you have to do is bolt the support in, and make sure everything lines up with the body panels hung. If everything matches, then you spot ( TIG preferabally)weld where the OEM one was.
EDIT: that website lists a new front bulkhead assembly for $166 and some change. The set is listed as #13 in the diagram below.

The only real welding experience I have is with TIG. So I am not sure on that one. You will have to get with somebody that knows a little more about welding theory and practice that I do.
But yeah, go with OEM man. You can't go wrong with it. And you know it will fit right.

mig will be fine. just follow all the factory welds and it will be just as strong as it came from the factory. Just grind your welds for a clean finish. also may want to pick up some weld-through primer. Then just primer and paint and your done
