I'm looking at a car that has a snapped wheel stud and am curious how easy and time consuming it is to fix this.

 

Takes about 30 minutes, all you need is a hammer.

Take the caliper off, the rotor off, then pound the old stud out, put the new one in and take a lug and press it in by useing the lug, screw it all the way on and just tighten it so it presses in. hope that helps.

Uhh... not that easy. You need to pull the hub off either with a slide hammer or a press.

Depending on where your at and how much snow/salt effected the car it could be a bitch of a job. Last one i did took 2-3 hours due to rust.

Ah, that is not such a good idea. But it is a good way to mess up your wheel bearings.

They need to be pressed out with the hub off of the car.

 

he said take off the hub
and its just fine it doesnt HAVE to be pressed the hub removal by the way does not recquire a sliding hammer or press its held in by a nut if your removing your hubs with a press your pretty screwed up

 

Fronts or the Rears? Rears are 1000000x easier to do

 

i just did this the other day.. took about 10 minutes with the slide hammer.

some cars also have enough access where you dont have to pull the hub.. my honda was not one of them

basically this what i did on my 96 civic

-remove wheel
-remove caliper and rotor
-attach slide hammer to lugs
-pound out broken stud/pound in new stud
-replace everything...

about 10 minutes if all goes according to plan

 

It's on the rear, sounds like there is a true way and a 1/2 *** way......

 

Since it is on the rear, it will be so much easier.

Just use a little PB Blaster to free the binds from the splines on the stud. PB Blaster is better than WD-40, because it is petroleum based, not like water with WD-40. Much better stuff.
