I am in the process of changing out my stock '00 Si tranny to what is supposed to be a freshly rebuilt '98 Type R tranny (and replacing the clutch and flywheel).

The only thing is, my flywheel pilot bearing (new or old) will not fit the supposed Type R tranny (can see that it does have an LSD).

Am I missing something here, did honda use a different size ID pilot bearing on some B series transmissions?

both those trannies use the same pilot bearing.is there any chance the snout of the input shaft is flared or damaged?is the input shaft bigger or smaller than the pilot bearing?
can you measure it?how many spline on the input shaft?

aren't you suppose to slightly hit it with a hammer so it sit's right?

you may have to to get it in the flywheel,but the input shaft should easily slide into it-there's no way to hammer it anyway when the tranny case is 1/2" from the block

isn't the pilot bearong go on the center of the flywheel? wouldn't you have to remove the flywheel to do this? trying to learn here.

yes,the pilot bearing is pressed into the center of the flywheel,and then sandwiched against the crank once installed.
the tip of the input shaft slides into the pilot bearing once the tranny is installed.

I know that the number of splines matches up to the SiR tranny since the clutch disk will fit both trannies properly.

I don't have access to a vernier at the moment to measure the shaft diameters. I guess the shaft could be flared/bitched (tried grinding a bit of a chamfer on the end), is this common?

I am basically trying to test fit the flywheel off the car to the tranny, already failed trying to hang the tranny with the clutch all bolted up, that's why I took everything off again to see what the problem is. The bearing goes in the flywheel from the engine side, so if i hammer the tranny on, I will just end up pushing the bearing out of the flywheel.

theinput shaft sticks out past the case a little.if you were to store the tranny on it's end,the input shaft could definitely get damaged.

all the b-series trannies use the same bearing.and it has to be a B-series tranny,since the disc wouldn't fit on a D.only thing i can think of is the shaft is damaged.

Yes, this is true. I have never stored the tranny resting on the shaft. However, doesn't mean that the previous owner did not.

So, I guess I'm SOL then?

get pictures, take measurements, might be able to "massage" it to fix it.

yup,as said above,it may be fixable.
first thing,i'd set up a dial indicator to make sure the input shaft isn't bent.if not,you could carefully remove material until it fits the pilot bearing again.
new input shaft is about $250

OK, well I guess I will take it back to the shop I bought it from.

Paid $1000 cnd for rebuilt while I waited (watched all new synchros and bearings go in it) So, I should not have paid that much for a bitched input shaft.

Looks like the regular non LSD tranny is going back on. Oh well....

yeah,it should definitely get fixed if it was supposed to be rebuilt.
