How can I stop my car from idling higher than normal when the car is cold?
You know how when you turn on your car (after it has been sitting for like 6-8 hours or overnight) and the car automatically keeps your idle high so your car can warm up faster, well i dont like that and i just want my car to idle at 800 rpms all the time. i heard that the car increases fuel to keep the rpms up. how can i disable this system easily? btw i have an auto if that makes a diff.
thanks

why would you want to do this...it's in the computer though so good luck trying to tinker with that!
You can't do anything about that. I think in my Honda manual it stated that running at a higher idle or rpms or something will warm the car up faster. Just DON'T turn on your car then drive away when it's freezing cold. Give it some time to work up pressure and lubricate the parts thoroughly before taking off.
You can put your car in Drive, the spot marked 'D4' on your gear selector, and hold your foot on the brake until the car warms up. That way your engine will run at a lower rpm.
Only morons runs the stock higher idle when their cars are cold.
You'll definately get more girls with a lower idle too.

Your car idles higher for a reason when it is cold. If it did not idle at a higher rate when it is cold it would probably stall out. It also runs richer when it is cold because cold engines need more fuel to operate than a warn engines does. My advice would be to leave it alone and leave it up to Honda’s engineers.

Not only does the car do this to warm it up quicker but the catalist in the Catilitic Convertor and the O2 sensors dont work at best efficiency when the engine is cold so your car cant really diagnos how the car is running by using the O2 sensor to check for lean or rich conditions so it runs at a higher rpm until it is warmed up and then it is able to use its sensors properly.
