hello every one.

i need you to bare with me on this one......

this is the deal.
i got a mint b16a2 that i got from a junkyard about a year ago... i was happy ang glad that i got it for dirt cheap that i could lick his oil pan....(its rear because i'm living in israel and we dont have many of them and its very hard to find parts and no way of finding a tranny here)
so if i need parts and a gear box.... i need to order them from the US.
mean while i got some parts for it as: arp cranck studs and acl bearings ect ect......(nothing major)
i was planning on building it on stock sleeves with pistons and rods and some head work with a huge turbo and make +400 HP.

BUT NOW.... i got a killer deal on a prelude H22 from a junkyard so i figured i could make more power with it. plus i can find parts and a transmissions in my country.

so.... what do you think.... should i sell or keep the B16 and continue with the plot?
or should i get that h22 and do the same with it? (same=stock sleeves +pistons rods and some head work.)

You can achieve the same power goal on either motor... but you'll have a ton more torque with the h22.

which H22 should i look for?

 

if you do decide to go with the h22 make sure you sleeve the block before putting pistons in there!!except mahle gold series pistons which i dont trust.

 

i said before.... i'm not going to sleeve the engine..... dosn't matter if its a B or a H...

 

while there are many people who have had success on non-sleeved h22's, i suggest sticking with the b16. h22 are very sensitive.

 

I've had both and in my opinion i think you should go with the H22. BUT, if you can, build both and see which one you like better. your just going to have to try it out yourself and see what you feel is best .

 

I think you are missing the point hondaaccord94 was trying to make. The H22 has FRM lined sleeves, which is INCOMPATIBLE with forged pistons. You must sleeve the block over to an iron sleeve to be able to run forged pistons. You cannot simply put in forged pistons like you would with the iron sleeved from the factory B16 block.

Mahle gold's claim to be able to work with FRM sleeves but the answer is still inconclusive as we do not have straight answers from real world exprience.

If you do not want to re-sleeve, then I would suggest staying with the B16. Both motors can be made for your power goals, but as Precision said, the H22 will output more torque.

i thought MAHLE pistons came out with a piston that was compatible with the FRM ??

 

They did. I have not personally used a set though.

I have a customer coming in for a tune on friday that uses these pistons though. I am planning on doing a very in depth inspection of the engine with a borescope before and after tuning to see how these pistons do. I will provide the results sometime friday afternoon.
