98-2001 accord cluster.... gas gauge is stuck 1/2 way....?
Well currently I'm at a family road trip to Missouri in my wifes STOCK 2001 accord ex 4cyl auto.
<FONT COLOR="blue"> For highway driving my accord typically gets about 420-435 miles from full to empty tank. I ALWAYS used 87oct. </FONT>
Yesterday, <U>I pumped 89 oct "with EthonaleS(sp)"</U> because it was 0.02 cheaper than regular 87octane. I was driving for about 220miles (the gas needle is 1/2 way) which is perfectly normal. So i kept driving and notice that i was at 300 miles & my gauge needle was still only at the 1/2 way mark.
So the next exit I pulled in to get gas. Filled her up.
the GAS gauge works fine until it reached the 1/2 way mark... then it stop working.
It's not affecting my car performance at all.
Drives fine.
I still the same 400-430 miles on a full 13-14 gals.
Q: is there any way to reset that GAS NEEDLE?
Q: could the issue be directly realted to the fact that I used 89 octane?
Q: does honda have a recal on any of the clusters (since ford did make them) heh
Thanks, i'll check back tomorrow night when i get back home.

I think that slivers of corn got stuck in your float level resistor track.
Can you confirm half full or half empty please.
I would pull the float and run it through its travel range and see how it affected the guage, historically the sending unit goes bad. Dont forget to clean the slivers of corn off.

<FONT COLOR="blue"> wow, honda-tech comes through again... even when i'm on vacation & on the road. LOL
I just got back. Since filling her up with that Iowa 89octane with ethonale, i've gotten 4 fulll tanks of new gas. So far the GAS gague is no longer stuck.. it just does not read as accurate once the needle goes past 1/2 way mark.
Not a big deal anymore... but still very curiouse to learn more about this. </FONT>

woah... i had no idea that I could even clean the float.
how do i access it?
(in truck or under the rear seats?)

It basically gets stuck 1/2 way on the gauge... so mid point, not 2/3 or 1/4.

eh...
My POS cluster fluctuates now and the needle light comes on whenever it wants too. Mine doesnt read very well above the halfway mark. Anything under and it reads ok so I guess Im still in luck.
From what Ive read, only some of the clusters were made by Ford. The others were made by another company. I forget how that was split.
I have a V6 BTW which is FULLY LOADED with issues.
