Default 98 Coupe Exhaust Question

Okay so i have been looking at some exhaust systems for my 98 Accord Coupe V6 and think i will be going with a flowmaster, so anyways thats coming in the future. So just i was just curious and i looked under my car at the stock exhaust and im not sure what im looking at lol it seems like there are 3 mufflers, and 2 cats, and an unkown component. Can someone tell me what all this stuff is? I have an accord manuel i picked up at the store but explains nothing. So does anyone know anything here? And has anyone eliminated any of these components and just run straight pipes out the back? And if so how did it sound. Any help is apprenciated! Thanx

Cat -> resonator -> pre-muffler -> y-pipe and 2 mufflers.

Flowmaster exhausts blow... They're not even really all that good for domestic V8s.

If you run a straight pipe instead of the cat, the exhaust will get much louder. You'll pick up a little on the top end, but lose a lot of torque on the low end. Not worth it, IMO.

Cat-backs that are good include brands such as Greddy, Apexi, Comptech, Magnaflow, etc.

Flowmasters sound great on V8's. What are you talking about. I think they sound crappy on 4cylinders though. I'm not sure how they would sound on a V6. If you could get the V8 type sound from a V6 I'd run them in a heartbeat.

Sounding good is doesn't necessarily make it "good" overall. In turns of performance, they don't do much. On V8s you can still get way better performance out of other exhaust systems.

Yeah but I'd rather have it sound good and not have the .001 extra hp. Although there are some other good sounding systems out there.

But I'm not talking about a small difference... More like 10hp difference or more. Oh well... I guess it's all personal choice. I personally like the GMMG systems for F-bodies.

For Accord V6's, I like the Comptech system, but it's a bit pricey. It's especially pricey when you consider that for 6th gens it's only an axle-back. The Greddy EVO systems sound great, but I hate the how big the muffler tips are. The Magnaflow systems are a bit cheaper than the Greddy systems, and I like the sound, but they drone a little.

Well, with Accords, pretty much all cat-back systems perfrom the same. You may find a small difference between brands, but it won't be much.
