Default How to tell if my muffler is blown?

Hey guys, well while im at school... im starting to plan out things to "finish" up my car for the spring. Anyways my exhaust sounds like absolute garbage.. It is raspy and ricey from 3-4k rpms... My setup is as follows.

megan racing header w/ collector (2.25" mod)
2.25" test pipe
2.25" crush bent exhaust
2.36" RSR exmag rear section...

Now the muffler is proably 3-4 years old... No exterior signs of it being blown, but im not sure what im lookin for....

maybe adding a resonator?

Hi flow cat and resonator. The muffler is probably fine.

you need a resonator to get rid of the rasp......google resonator and read up on sound cancelation.

you can get one at kteller.com they have various lengths depending on what you want

the longer the resonator the more high frequency cancelation. I have the stock cat and some muffler shop 16" resonator with a flowmaster and it sounds nice and low... no rasp. When I had the system no resonator... SUPER raspy from about 3-4k

I have a full satinless DC Sports exhaust on my 92 Si and all of a sudden it sounded really loud- way too soon for any kind of rusting, etc.

I took it to a muffler shop where they put it up on the rack and found that my exhaust tip/muffler was bumped forward (NO scratches at all on the tip???), and what happened was that the bump split the pipe a bit further up the line. It couldn't have been bumped more than an inch, but it was enough. The split was on the upper part of the pipe so they had to use a mirror to see it.

It only took 10 minutes total to check everything out and didn't cost a thing. I ended up going back and having the piece welded and its been fine since. It might be worth getting yours checked also to get a clear answer.
