Default what did i break?

i was a dumbass.

eg hatch

when you look under the dash, on the clutch side, theres a bolt type thing that has a switch of some sort inside it. when you press the clutch, the black rod comes out, when you depress the clutch, the clutch hits the rod and pushes it back in. what is this?

i overtightened the bolt and it snapped. now i have a piece of the bolt stuck in the threads hopefully can be taken out by pliers.

The only thing I can think of that has a switch on the clutch side is the safety switch. That is the switch that makes your car non-startable unless you have the clutch pressed down all the way.

Go outside with a camera and take a picture.

Sound's like either the start inhibitor switch, or if your car came with cruise control it could also be the cruise disengage switch.
