maybe...Before my R was stolen, I had Polk db components up front & Polk dx^ speakers in the back. It was tight. I had 2 Polk db10 subs that had yet to be hooked up for bass. As you're well aware, you don't get much bass response from your speakers (EVEN those kickass Polks) due to the lack of insulation in our beloved R's. As you can see, I really like Polk.
Check http://www.crutchfield.com. They often have great closeout deals on the website. If you know anyone well who lives near Charlottesville or Harrisonburg VA, they could check out the Crutchfield outlet store. I got a helluva deal on my audio components from the store.
As for head units, I like Kenwood Excelon, always have. The new ones though are not XM ready, but Sirius ready. I have heard little good about Sirius, but a lot of good about XM radio. That is my only aprehension about the Kenwods. The Sony X-Plods are XM ready & a nice head unit, but I still like the Kenwoods better.
Also, if you need tech assistance, or just some advice to point you in the right direction, the staff @ Crutchfield is
I hope this helps you out. Good luck.

I have boston rallys in the front and jl 6.5s in the rear with a jlw3 10" for bass. I have a 4 channel alpine hooked up to handle to power. 2 channels for the sub and 2 channels for the 4 components. Sounds nice, considering it came with my car. When I need to take out the sub, its a 2 wire job
btw i have a crappy clarion head unit that i need to get rid of to buy a nice head unit.

I HAD this in my car for a while, but I took it out due to it's weight...I may be selling the parts if you are interested in them...MB Quarts all around (component up front) each w/ their own crossover, Soundstream amps (4x100 and 500x1), Sony Mobile ES headunit w/ EQ, Polk dB 10" subs, Sony ES CD Changer
Alpine head unit, 12 disk changer, DDD's all around (with no tweets in the rear), PPI 2 channel amp bridged to run the componants. When I installed this I was amazed at how good it sounded, with just a 2 chan running all. JL15W3 and Phoenix Gold XS2500 going in this summer. I'll make the sub enclosure (w/amp) removable for the track, so the weight added by my system will only be about 15 lbs.
which alpines light up amber?? im thinking a clean clean deck, or stock head unit or relocating to glove box
