if you're timing belt has broken... then your valves are f'd... your car will not start with a broken belt.

what if it's not broken just not set right? and I know it won't start with a broken one, I mean if I put a new one on and reset the timing... I know my powersteering belt spins..... which is connected to the crank that the timing belt is on, does that mean the timing belt is still on there?

let me explain how this happen, started my car drove around for a lil bit after i put some bigger rims on my car, parked it, it ended up snowing so I didn't start the car for 4 days, when I went back out there to start it, it was still really cold outside and icey, turned the key it didn't even try to start, just made the sound it's making now

ok well first of if this is an stock h22. the only time the h22 is inteference is when you are in vtec. so if the timing belt broke at start up you probably did not mess up valves.

take off the valve cover and check the timing belt to see if its intact.

The belt is probably still on there what happens a lot is the teeth shear off of the belt. Just because your belt broke DOES not guarantee your valves are bent especially since your engine wasnt running.

yeah I have a f22a1 sohc non vtec, I'll take it off tomorrow and let you all know, I have a new timing belt anyways, just in case, no way to tell if the valves messed up, just by taking off the valve cover right?

if you take the vc off, and take out the spark plugs, remove driver's side wheel, then have a friend turn the crank pulley you will see the valves moving up and down. The bent ones will move a lot more than the others. Don't forget to disconnect your neg. cable from the battery

took the vc off belt is snapped.... someone said since the car wasn't running nor did it try to turn over, my gears were prob frozen and wehn i turned the key and it tried to crank it just pulled the timing belt tight and snapped it... sound logical? which prob means the valves won't be bent since it never started right?

you hope.... still you should check before you start the car, so you don't bend all of them. Make sure to time your engine correctly (all marks to tdc) before you start the car also, or else you'll bend the valves. Then, you can buy a timing gun from Autozone for like $60, use it once, and return it.
