Default Warm start issues?

I know this must be a common problem, seeing as both my beater and my GF's car have it, but search is down right now.

Anyway, I know the problem is related to DPFI, which I admittedly don't know as well as MPFI.

Sometimes, when the car is turned off (or killed...) it doesn't like to restart immediately, leaving you waiting around until it will start, sometimes holding up traffic.

The computer pulls up the fuel injector code, but the connections on them are good. and I doubt both fuel injectors are malfunctioning at the same time. Any DPFI gurus know what i'm talking about? I'm thinking of pulling the main relay and checking the solder on it, even though I doubt that's what it is.

Thanks, Casey.

well the dual point uses a main injector and an auxillary injector.

*i believe* the auxillary only comes into play at WOT

so maybe your primary injector is pooping out. you don't floor it when you're trying to start it, right?

it dies in traffic??

I've tried flooring it, I can't tell if it helps or not, though.

It doesn't die on it's own. It just sometimes doesn't restart if you kill it without waiting a few minutes. The symptoms also occur with shutting it off and trying to start it immediately.

The hardest part is that it's intermittent, so that when I mess with something, it usually seems to fix it, but doesn't really.

I don't know what to tell yah, my base model hatch used to eat o2 sensors and Map sensors all the time, it still does after I sold it to my gf a while back, yeah, yeah before she was my gf I would have given it to her now. I got the injector code once and replaced both from the junkyard, an easy way to test them is get an extra pigtail for the injectors and briefly hit it with a 9volt battery, as soon as it clicks let go of the lead. They are a b*tch to get out of the injector body though after sitting for 15-18 years. Good luck with that you will easily break them so go to a junkyard with quiet a large selection. My guess is possibly you are bleeding off fuel pressure somewhere in the system when the car warms up, bad injector o-rings etc., after you check your main relay that is.

TeamRedline, did you have the o2 sensor code? I'd love it if this fixed it. My GF's car for sure has it's original, it's barely used.

I had this a few times with dpfi, then again with mpfi, then I realized after about a year it was my main relay dying.
