Default Rack Removal

I'm removing a bad rack from my EG. Its a PS rack, and I'm puting a non-PS rack in. I have the tie rod ends and all bolts that bolt to the subframe off. The rack is very loose, however, I don't know how to get the steering column part off. I've searched and this topic isn't really covered. Anyone have a helms on the removal of the rack?

Dude do the looped PS system, save so much time! It's so much better and looks sweet, and is easier to use!

theres a through bolt that holds the coulpler to the rack. should be like 12mm hex head. once thats out it should slip off, sometimes it takes a little convincing to get the coupler to slide off the rack.

BTW: look at the new rack, you will see the splined section, it will have a section on the splines that a bolt will lay against.

Dude, read the post. Its a bad rack. How does it look better, and how is it easier to use? I had the looped system for two years. PS racks w/o a pump don't last forever.

Coupler behind brake pedal inside cab. Plastic cover over steering column is held on with metal clips, just pull it off. At the base of the column you will see the rack poking up through the firewall. 10mm bolt holding it onto the rack. Walla, now its free.

Good luck fishing it out
