just wanted to share a story with everyone...
so...about a month ago...on my 5th run at the dragstrip...i manage to break BOTH my axles AND my differential...it was absolutely horrible...
LUCKILY, there was this one awesome fellow who had a trailer and happened to live near the track (woulda cost me like 280 to have my car towed back to chicago)...changing out axles is cake, no biggie...but the diff was gonna be a PITA...and seeing that we were gonna hafto rebuild the trans, we figured it'd be a great opportunity to install an LSD...
so after hunting around h-tech for about a week, i finally landed an ITR LSD and ring gear (i've got a b18 with a b16 trans)...tranny rebuild and axle install...all went well...super...
THEN...about a week later...i notice this odd vibration coming from the driver's side between 25-45mph only during acceleration...two days later...my driver's side axle BREAKS...from just daily driving too...
so, i go ahead and change the axle AGAIN (thank God for autozone's lifetime warranty)...all's well...FOR ONLY ONE MORE WEEK...
crap!...driver's side axle goes bad ONCE MORE...now experience tells me that autozone axles are shitty, BUT there's absolutely NO WAY that i could be having this much bad luck with their axles...
SO, after fighting with the manager for like 30min, i manage to get my money back for both the driver's side and passenger's side axles...i said to hell with autozone rebuilt POS's...and i get me a nice set of OEM-spec summer&company axles...
install for both sides goes well...THEN GUESS WHAT?!?!?!...about two days later...i notice that funky vibration again...."IMPOSSIBLE!! THESE ARE BRAND NEW OEM AXLES!!"....
i take another two days inspecting wheel bearings, bushings, tie rods, rims, balancing, alignment, etc...u name it!...NOTHING WRONG...
"where the hell is this vibration coming from? what the F*&% is causing it?! WHY AM I GOING THRU DRIVER'S SIDE AXLES LIKE NOBODY'S BIZZ?!!"
then an epiphany!...my friggin' intermediate shaft...i take that fuqqer off and yep...it has ridiculous amount of play....'
i pick up a used one from a local shop...put it in...fantastic...
then about 3hrs after the install...that effing vibration slowly creeps back...i **** a brick..."NO WAY THE SHAFT I JUST PICKED UP IS BAD TOO...half shafts rarely go bad to begin with!~~~"
this is when i consulted h-tech (i should have MUCH EARLIER)...and researched on vibration...and all the choas in the past several weeks negated what 99.9% of u guys would say..."u have bad axles"...
and FINALLY...another epiphany...i read a post on hubcentric rings...and something finally clicks in my head...i immediately hit up the local discount tire for a set of 73-57.15 hubrings...put them on...and BAM! PERFECT! (i had just installed my new rota c8s after the tranny rebuild & the frikkin' place i got the rims from said i didn't need those damn hub rings at the time!)
so yah...the past month has been absolute hell for me...the time, money, frustration caused by something SO SIMPLE...
hopefully, some of u guys can relate to this madness...and u can see why it was soooo difficult to diagnose...i dont think i'm a retard...next time this sorta crap happens, imma know wut to do...
