If you're talking about the lock door handle - which you use to lock, unlock, and open the door from the inside, then yes, there is a screw in it, and that entire assembly needs to be removed before you can pull the door panel off.

If you're talking about what Honda calls the "grip", the handle you use to pull the door closed while seated, then no, that doesn't need to come off, and can only be removed after you pull the door panel off (I think the screws holding it on are located on the interior of the door panel).

If you click here you can see an exploded diagram of the lock mechanism, including the interior & exterior handles. Part#38 is the screw you need to remove. After which you can carefully pull the handle out just enough to manually unhinge the rods that connect that assembly to the locking mechanism.

Yeah, that's why I have no idea what "grey part" you're talking about - I have a 97, everything is black.

Since you're having trouble explaining what part of the door you want to work on, perhaps you could take a picture of it. Lots of free image hosting services around, I usually use imageigloo.com.

The panel is one piece. The gray and black parts of the cover is sewn together to make one piece to cover the rigid panel. You will have to remove the entire skin off the panel to make alterations.
