NHRA approved seats and SFWD regulations
I am looking to get some new seats. I know for SFWD you have to have two matching front seats.
My question is do the seats have to be OEM or can they be just your standard seat. I am looking into the MemoryFab s58 seats. They are not FIA approved. Will I still be legal as long as I have 2 matching and there are 4 bolts holding it down?
Thanks in advance.

bump i have the f1specs and the same question...im in the process of modifying my seat brackets to fit all 4 bolts right now only 3 line up im going to get all 4 to bolt up but just curious if i didnt would it pass tech with 3 bolts?
2 matching upholstered seats. stockers need not to be tied to the cage, ANY aftermarket seat must be tied to the cage. with a back brace.

OK thanks Mike.
So I guess that having an adjustable/sliding seat is out of the picture if it needs to be welded to the cage.
Oh well, I gotta play by the rules though.

I didn't take it as you being harsh. I have thick skin anyway. I can take it.
Does anybody have pics of how they built a frame around the seat and tied it into the cage?

You can easily save about 10lbs per seat by replacing it with a lighter one.

Any of the Kirkey's are super light as are many of the fiber/carbon shell ones. Anything with a tilt back or a slider is pretty heavy.

I have seen cars with sparcos, recaros and even areospeed seats pass tech with not being tied in to the cage i think that rule is specific to metal seats could be wrong tho.
quote the rulebook
"aftermarket seats permitted, but must be fully upholstered."
Thats all the rules say period

Which is why I asked this question. The book is pretty vague of this topic.

most of the time you can do whatever you want unless they tell you specifically you cant, in the case there not saying no. Honestly buy your seats you'll pass tech..

How the seats attach will be in the general regulations. What seats are legal for the class will be in the SFWD rules.

I do understand that Tony. I have looked at the class regs and the general regs.
I just don't know how I can attach a brace to the cage and to a carbon fiber seat.... I will have the four bolts to hold it down, but that is about all I can think of. How the hell do I mount this thing to the cage?!?!
