something is shorting out. check your ground wires, starter wires, alternator wires, ignition wires.
i had the same on my previous car (not honda), found out i had a ground wires shorted.

ah this is bothering me. The starter clicks so there cant be anything wrong with it, i havent tried turning the engine over yet tho
philosofy1 what should i be looking for? the short circuit would mean i have a ground wire getting a positive signal...or vice versa..right?

happen to me once as well. put the positive on and poof, lots of smoke. turns out the ground to the starter was not in all the way and the metal was touching a part of the starter. just took it off and retighten the ground and it started fine. gl

OK, today me and pops tested all the grounds and everything is good, the tranny ground was weak so i cleaned it up.
We hooked up the D-seried starter to test the ignition. It didnt make the "click" sound when we hooked it up to the battery so that was a good sign. I when i turned the key it worked like its supposed to.
So the problem seems the solenoid on the B16 is permanently closed so everytime we hook the battery up it tries to engage....therefore I need a new starter.
NEW question is..are B and D series starters interchangeable?
