Speedometer not working neither does the vtec...
I bought a 1998 Honda prelude with an H22 , the car was running good until one day while I was using the cruise control I blew the fuse for the ECU . I lost my speedometer and lots of other stuff . Everytime I'd put another fuse in it ... she would blow up. I knew I had a short circuit somewhere. I brought my car to a guy I knew was good in electrical and he told me it was in the main harness but it''\s the wires that go to the alternator . we ran 4 other wires from the alternator to the plug-ins which they were supposed to go. I leave my house .... the car doesn't blow the fuse anymore but I still don't have a speedometer or vtec. so I took the intake manifold off to see if there was any other wires that could be shorting out. I found two wires that were shaffed ... one was from the 4 wires we changed earlier and the other one was going to a sensor on the transmission located right below the air hose ... it's not a plug-in ... theres 2 wires coming out of it and each wire has it's individual connector. at first I tought it was the speed sensor so I ordered one ... It wasn't the same thing at all ... I tried the new speed sensor ... doesn't work. Somebody Help me!
well the speedo not working could be the speedometer in the dash behind the cluster. there is another box there that reads the vss and goes to the gauge, the v tec part could be a bad silenoid or fuse but not a vtec guy so not exactly sure what else it could be
I'm pretty sure when your speedo goes your VTEC will go with it. When you're at idle and you rev it to you're VTEC engagement point it wont actually hit VTEC because the car knows you're not moving. So when your actually moving and you hit 5200 RPMs since the speedo is reading 0 the car acts as if it's at idle.
Don't quote me on that... not totally sure. I know... horrible explanation. I'm a little short on time and want to help out.

Check the harness that runs from the VSS and reverse gear selector sensor (on the tranny that you identified earlier), as it runs next to some components that get very hot etc. Also check your connections at the fuse box. Sounds like your main harness that is clipped to the tranny has a major short in it somewhere.
