Glove or No Glove on Filler Hand
I have found myself not using a glove on my filler rod hand as I find it much more comfortable and accurate. How many of you guys dont wear a glove on this hand? My main concern is the UV rays from this exposed skin. I dont seem to get any type of "sun" burn on the hand, but I wonder if I'm still being exposed to dangerous levels of UV rays doing this?
Btw, are these the best gloves out there for tig welding?

Regards,
Justin

my first time tigging, I did it for 3 hrs. and had horrible sunburns on my forearms and a nice V below my neck from not buttoning up my shirt all the way. I found out the hard way that tig puts out way more UV than stick
It's easier to deal with lack of comfort and imprecision than skin cancer - besides I push the filler in far enough that my left hand ends up only about an inch from the puddle anyway

Those look thicker than I would like. I usualyl end up with the really thin deerskin ones. I also buy a smaller size than I really need and jam my hand in there until it stretches out really nice.
But yes I always use a glove. You get used to it.

ya i hate gloves too... i bought a thinner glove which is actually for mechanic work but much thinner....
sun burn is the least of your worries....
what you should be worried about is skin cancer.

use the gloves... i wear really tight gloves.. i love not burning myself!
especially when doing aluminum... the heat travels through the rod soooo fast, and you can never tell when what you are working on is still hot or not.

I can actually feel the heat through the TIG Tillman gloves and I have a pretty high tolerance of heat. I use some Mechanics gloves with the Tillman TIG gloves over that for a super tight fit. The MIG gloves are just too bulky and thick for me.

Dude try welding some sheet copper using strips of the base material as filler. It's Freakin sweet. I had to wear three pairs of gloves just to withstand the heat of making 6in long outside corner welds on ~16g (can never remember the OZ) sheet.
Kind of fun stuff to weld.

That tells me that the guys at OCC are freaking retards. I think the combined IQ of the shop is somewhere around 63

I use some cheap mechanix wannabe gloves I bought from wallyworld. The good thing is, the glove fits and feels like a mechanix but the palm part is deerskin leather unlike the mechanix gloves. THey are great for TIG welding.
I don't use gloves anymore. If I'm running too many amps, I wear a glove on the the torch hand.
I like the regular white cotton gloves best for filler though. They work really good.

I've had those Tillmans before. I think the deerskin ones are a darker color and a little bit thinner. They have a suede type finish instead of smooth as well. Can't for the life of my remember what they are called. My fav by far though.
All you 30% non glove wearing pansies need to get your head in the game and purchase some proper equipment.
