Yes, I need to replace my axles on my 96 civic hatchback and I did a search and found some very interesting info and a thread that I will use to do the whole process, but I got off the phone with an auto mechanic and he suggested having the seals replaced where the axles go into the transmission housing area. I was not aware that these seals should be replaced. Has anyone done this or think that it is something that should be done?

 

it is possible to do it with the axles out. just get some thin pryers or a flathead,

 

Is it necessary though? Basically, is this part of a normal axle replacement process that Midas, Les Schwab, etc. would do?

 

i dont think so, its more if its worn or torn or leaking replace it, its only 2-3 bucks so i would just do it.
