Hey guys, I was previously a owner of 2 ITR's at different points in time. Now as everyone knows the ITR is extremely fun to drive and has that amazing feeling of a raw sports car.
I have been going back and fourth about buying a 05-06 RSX or another ITR.
So I come to you guys today to see how the two cars stack up against each other. I have driven the new Rsx and it feels pretty quick stock, and the gearing is really nice as well. It dosnt have the rawness of the R , but hopefully there may be some guys here who have had or have both and could shed some light on this topic for me. Thanks

I'm a former 3 time ITR owner. All 3 were sold at my own will and pace. No wrecks or thefts. After daily driving a few 1.8T VW's and a Mazdaspeed Protege over the last few years, I returned to Honda for the long term reliability, resale, value, and, fuel economy. Not to say that these cars I owned in recent years weren't those things, but I was looking for a good 5year/100K mile car. And to me the RSX-S fit the bill perfectly.
The drive is not lightyears away from a stock ITR, like some folks in the ITR forum would like you to believe. The lack of an LSD and standard all season tires take away from the cars handling performance, but both items are an easy fix.
I for one plan on adding a JDM ITR LSD, A Spec spring/damper combo, and, some summer tires on lightweight forged wheels. At which point, I expect the car to be a lot more "ITR like".
The fact that I can daily drive it, and, park it without the living the constant terror ITR owners live under when they park their car at work, school, their driveway, etc. is priceless. Especially with my always-on-the-go work schedule.
The RSX-S feels more refined, is quieter, and, has a more luxurious leather interior/power sunroof/cruise, 6 CD changer, etc. The six speed has a great stock shifter, not as good as an ITR's but, functional and durable it is.
The K20Z1 has great power, slightly more torque than the b series, and, makes power easier than the C5. Getting more power from a stock C5 after the basic mods are done, is like getting blood from a stone. K series motors on the other hand make huge n/a gains, and, offer greater reliability/durability over the old rubber timing belt vtec's.
The brakes, aren't as good as the ITR's. But not far behind. I'm sure that pads and fluid will go a long way for those planning on tracking.
In summary, I'd say that for daily driving and comfort. You'll still get alot of the driving exctiement found in the R, but in a much more real-world practical package. Not to mention that you have a huge aftermarket to pick from now as well. It's not like in '01 when the RSX's first came out.

Hey Mike
I have owned 2 ITR's and now have an 06 type S. What is it that you are wondering about? So far I love my S, the handling is not quite the same as the R but the power and comfortable ride make up for it. Plus I am getting older and kinda like having a few amenitites that aren't available for an R. If you have any other Q's feel free to PM.

You'll hate the suspension if you're going to try to get it to handle like a TYPE-R! Just won't happen. The brakes are nice with decent pads though. I'd go with another TYPE-R.

Thanks, that is a good comparison and as you said should be a pretty easy fix. The ITR has my heart, but I hate the idea of all the theft that is going on and has been.

Yeah nothing will handle like an R but I guess as previously stated, as far as practicle day to day, and the amentities, I guess it would be a good buy, not to mention it is newer.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by justink4 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Hey Mike

You pretty much summed up my entire opinion
Definitely miss my R but the Type-S has potential. It's not raw, I miss that alot. As far as braking and lsd I feel the same as H-Pimp. Suspension I would probably go with coilovers if and when I decide to change it. I'd steer away from the 02-04 type-s as it doesnt compare as well. Aftermarket for the 05-06 is still growing. I loved the design of the B18C5, im getting use to the K20Z1 and liking it. Cold air intakes usually require cutting the fender lining, I don't like that they couldnt come up with a better install.
