helicoil for plug?

Default helicoil for plug?

hey guys, new to this bike stuff, my friend is selling an 02 cbr600 and he said that it needs a helicoil for the plug, or something. said that honda would do it for around 200 bucks. the guy wants 3500 for it, not sure on the miles, im gonna find that out tonight. what do yall think about the helicoil thing?? im not sure

the guy said that the plug was crossthreaded or something like that, it runs fine but said that it should be fixed

absolutley should be fixed... plugs often get heated so high that they become fused with the soft aluminum, and pull out threads(they are not really cross threaded) this is why I try and use thread lube(graphite). but if the inevitable happens helicoil is what is needed to fix it

if the helicoil has to be replaced, what does that run usually?? im not gonna do it, how much would a dealer usually charge?

head off I have to say around $75-125... I'd just do it myself, but if your more inclined to use a service, use a machine shop NOT the dealer.

is there any way to do it with the head on?? i mean, i dont know what it consists. im assuming i have to take the farrings off and what not right?? is it just a normal helicoil?? like for a stripped out bolt?? the little spring thing? how long should it hold up?? like i said, im a noob to this bike thing

I thnk I have heard of folks doing thread replacement with the head on, but I wouldn't... call a local machine shop and get there advice for your problem.

machine shops are soo much better and machining these parts and making sure the area they drill in the least intrusive possible. i would also have to say that for the most part you will need to remove the head. you dont want any scrappy scraps falling in and then getting stuck or damaging the cylinders.
