Help with EP purchase
A friend of mine has been lookin for an ep and i was jus lookin on autotrader for him today. He wants to pay no more than 15k. I seen an 02 today for $8.6k salvage, 70k miles..but he doesnt want a salvage title. is that a decent deal or should he pay 15k for an 02 with 100k miles clean title.. im jus lookin for opinoins and suggestions for him..Also a Honda dealership had an 03 with 60k miles and wanted 19k,, so again wat are some suggestions if any..?
My boy paid less than 19k for his 03 ep brand new, that is not a deal. I personally wouldn't want a salvage title, they never have a good resale value. I guess it depends on how long he wants to keep the car, and how much he wants to save....
As I'm sure you can appreciate, what an EP3 may be worth is based on a lot of factors -- model year, condition of the car, mileage showing, modifications (if any), and where you live. All other things being equal, an EP3 that's survived four winters in Detroit is going to be worth a lot less than a similar car in northern Virginia, where I live.
And, speaking of that, as I've mentioned before, for several years used EP3s were easy to find and the prices were general low. That's not the case now. Probably because gasoline prices are still fairly high, any Honda, regardless of model, tends to command a premium used car price. That will likely change as the price of gasoline declines. But, right now, there are no EP3s listed for sale in the northern Virginia/Wash DC/Baltimore area. None. They are probably trading word-of-mouth. So, whereas last year you could steal a "good" 02 EP3 for $10k or so, the last time an '02 EP3 appeared in The Washington Post (approximately six weeks ago), the asking price was $12k and it sold the day the ad appeared. (Also, the fact that new Si's are selling for MSRP is also boosting the price for used EP3s, even though they are very different cars.)
So, the salvage '02 you are looking at for approximately $9k may be a decent price now, assuming the car is serviceable. The '03 for $19k, on the other hand, seems damn expensive for a car with 100k (!) on the odometer. You can do better - that's for sure - but I wouldn't put too much stock in what you are told about EP3 prices several months or years ago.

That's because the general public hardly knew that the EP even existed. Just recently, a store worker asked me about my car, and he was quite disappointed to learn that they aren't being made anymore -- and he's a Honda hatchback fan.

Nah -- that'll never change. It hasn't changed in the last twenty years -- Hondas, especially Civic hatchbacks, always draw higher prices than other manufacturers' vehicles of similar style, vintage & mileage.
But, still, $19K is friggin' HIGH for an '03 EP. That dealership will probably even find a buyer dumb enough to pay it, too.

I bought my white 03 EP3 about 2 months ago for $17K CND with 50K Kms on it so the $19K USD with 100K miles is a fair bit overpriced i would say.

hes a member on ep hatch. but the problem there is that most of the ep's on there are moded allready and they want more for them, and he also wants to make it his own project. i would want the same but hes just a freak about everything being perfect.. and the ep at the dealership had 80k miles ... one I seen on autotrader had 100k but still 19k for 80k miles and not so great condition IMO is 2 much.

When it comes to used car prices ur probally pretty damn close. Hell even new cars r way off on the pricing when u consider the exchange rate.
A brand new S2000 in the States starts at $34050 and up here in Canada ot starts at $50300. If u base it just on the current exchange rate the S2000 should be costing us up here brand new $37833 based on the US price.

I bought my '05 new in April '05 for around $16K.
He should talk to a local Honda dealer and have them do a nationwide search to see if they have any leftovers sitting on the lot. He could get a heck of a deal on a new one.

No offence but that seems like a rip off. I bought my 03 with 18k miles for the same price basically and that was back in May.

I've an 02 NHBP civic SI, clean title and never been in any accidents. I'm the first owner. Car is well maintained and needs nothing. Car is stock except for a carbon fiber dash kit and rear Spoon lower tie-bar. Car has 42xxx miles and still feels like the day I picked her up, excellent condition. Asking $12000 but will take $11500.
Let me know,thanks!

I bought an 02 ep3 two years ago for 10,500 with some tasteful mods. It only had 7k miles on it too. If you look around, you can pick them up for really cheap. There are a few on autotrader right now for under 10k with clean titles. Keep your eyes open.
