2001 Civic Air Conditioning activiation with defroster
Last year I purchased a used 2001 Civic, and have a question I am hoping somebody has the answer to. When either of the two defroster settings are used, the air conditioning is engaged, which is normal behavior. What is interesting and different in this car, though, than anything I've ever seen, is that the actual A/C light itself comes on (usually I've only ever seen/felt/heard the compressor engage, but the actual light on the manual button is never activated). The oddest and most frustrating part of the behavior is that when the air flow selector is turned off of either of the defroster settings, the A/C continues to be engaged (and the manual button/light stays on). Does anyone know if this is "normal" for that year car?
Check the FAQ thread. There is an FAQ on how to turn it off.

DIY: Turn Off Automatic A/C Turn-On
What you will need: Two Fingers
Time Needed: 10 seconds.
Annoyed with how you can't turn off the A/C when you turn to defog? Here's the override (realize that A/C expediates the defog process).
These steps are taken from a discussion thread on 2k1civic.com
1. Turn Car Off
2. Turn Temperature **** To Full Blue (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
3. Turn Vent **** To Off (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
4. Hold Down Air Recirculation Button As Well As A/C Button
5. Keep Both Buttons Depressed and Start Car
6. Keep Both Buttons Depressed for 7 Seconds
7. *AC LIGHT SHOULD BLINK*
You will now have control of your A/C regardless of what setting you are in, to revert back, simply repeat the procedue.

Depressed means pressed down.
Depressed means pressed down.

Really? I thought it meant you have no job, no prospects, you're an alcoholic or heroin addict with no partner or family and you sleep on a park bench?
How mis-informed can someone be?
I'd better start reading that dictionary again.

But I am assuming they originated in England, because England fathers everything.
And since you are not awnsering my IM's B18aCRX, I wih to issue you a formal apology for being a total *** the other night man. I let **** get to me all day (work, school, and here) that I should have brushed off.

Yep,
tyres > tires
colour > color
favourite > favorite
Proper English FTW!

I don't like the colour so much, because it makes me think of something else. And favourite, makes me think you need to pronounce the "ite" at the end more. Like favor - ITE! or something.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually wish I could get the behavior to be that the A/C engages when the defroster is activated, but then automatically disengages when the selector is moved off of either of the two defroster settings. This is "normal" behavior, and how current Hondas work.
