Default FREE EF!

A friend just unloaded his 91 4 Door EF DX to me today!

330, 000km's with cylinder 3 with no compression

Just a simple burnt exhaust valve which I know I can fix.

My question is: will a si head from a 90 EF fit on the D15 engine?

How much work is involved with swapping the motor's upper end and wiring harness to an SI one?

The bottom end of the motor seems very good still since it was driven by his old parents.

Sadly its a 4 speed auto but I guess it isn't so bad when its free!

i dont think you can swap a d16 head onto a d15 block, you can do a d15vtec swap.

as for swapping the upper end im just doing that as well, and if you check the faq's they will have step by step instructions.

good luck and enjoy your free car!

Just swap in a whole new SI engine, they're cheap enough. Why bother repairing a 300,000km slow engine, you'll spend more time and money on it than just buying a better lower milage engine that needs no internal work. Drop it in and have fun!

to answer your question yes you can swap the head onto it, they are basically the same head minus camshaft differences.

Use the A6 head. It works no problem. Wiring MPFI is super easy. Would take you 1 day to do all the work and you have a free car.

and you cant just swap the harness to and si harness, you'll just run into tons of problems. You need to just use the cars original harness and modify it where needed.

well the reason why I wanted to swap in an Si head is b/c I have an a6 head sitting in my garage. Too bad I sold the camshaft in it many years ago.

What I was thinking was:

Since the the existing head has a badly burnt valve that it would make sense to just swap the head out and use an Si cam, modify the factory harness to accomodate for MPFI and then install the Si intake manifold.

I would reuse the old head if the valves weren't shot but what's the point on redoing the valves?

The motor's compression is 180 psi on the cylinders that are still good.

very strong if you ask me and it doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil.

sadly its an automatic so I'm not sure which ecu to use with the si swap. I think I can use a 89 integra auto ecu but I'm not 100% on that idea yet.

Adjustable cam gear? why?

Also for the t-belt do I use an si t-belt or the original d15 belt? I think its the d15 belt I use b/c the deck height of the d15 is slightly lower than the si motor.

Thanks!

Wasn't there a D16A6 auto ECU? I thought there was a sedan with a D16A6 auto.

Hearsay warning!

I've read that you need to use a Y7/Y8 cam gear when you put a D16 cam on a D15 block. Check around on D-Series.org.
