Default OBDI H22 into 5th Gen Type SH

Well I'm almost back from Iraq and I need to finally replace the engine in my 2001 Type SH. Can you believe it has sat for almost 4 years while I was away?

Anyway, I've given up on the stock engine and am going to be installing an OBDI (non-atts, obvioiusly) H22 into the car just to get it rolling.

What are some things I need to worry about before I start? Here's what I've thought about, any help would be appreciated...

1) Wiring - OBD2 to OBD 1 conversion and then run OBD1 ECU... is this the best way to go?

2) Motor mounts - Will they work and everything will line up?

3) Axels - No more ATTS system... what axels should I use?

Any other issues I havent thought about? Remember, it's been four long years since I've even seen my Lude!

Thanks

First off, thanks for all you guys did, and are doing for our country. We are behind you guys all the way.

Secondly, why not just convert the ODBI engine to ODBII and call it a day. You have ALL the parts to do it.

From the top of my head, you only need to swap over your injectors, distributor, and your oil pump. I suggest changing the oil pump on the new engine before it goes into the car anyway. Just pick up an OBDII pump.

If I was in your situation, I would just swap over your complete intake manifold off your current engine, pull the distributor off it, and buy a new OBDII oil pump and call it a day. You will be able to keep your current engine harness and you won't ever have to worry about violating any emissions laws.

If I am missing anything, I am sure someone will add to this thread.

I don't know about the axles. It's a good time to change those too.

Good luck on the swap.

a new oil pump is unnecessary, but do make sure to change over the crank pos and top dead center sensors

I would also do the normal maintenance **** with said OBD 1 motor. ( Water pump, timing belt, tensioner or manual conversion, oil change etc.. )

I also say convert the OBD1 motor to OBD2. I believe the base model axles should work fine.

more reliable to swap pumps rather than possessing a wiring nightmare

swap pumps, oil pans, low timing covers, base axles, OBDII dizzy, OBDII PS and bracket, OBDII alt and bracket, OBDII AC and bracket, OBDII Intake manifold in its entirety (sp?)

question tho. Are the oil pumps, pans any different between SH and base?

the oil pan for the SH and Base are the same part number, so the same pan. Same with the oil pump.
