Default swap advice on 85 si

after about 5 yrs i've decided to fix my 85 si and was wondering is there any swap that will just bolt in my car...i know i'll have to change harness's or buy a jumper harness or sumthing but say will a DOHC ZC or JDM d15 bolt up no problem?

a 86 to 89 ZC single cam v-tec will bolt right up to your stock mounts.I know a dohc ZC will fit but im not sure about the mounts, the JDM SOHC (brown top) puts around 130 to the crank

the only bolt in swap for a 1g crx is a D16A1 from a 86-87 Teg, you will need motor trans, ecu, knuckles axles shift linakge

and there is a Brown Valve Cover JDM ZC(harder to find) that will bolt in, its basicly the same motor as the D16A1, but has more compression and another 5-10hp

any 88+ Dseries will not bolt up, dont give information if you dont know its right

the mounts on a 84-87 Civic/CRX are completely different

there is no SOHC Brown top, a Brown top ZC is only DOHC, and a Black top DOHC ZC will not fit, only the DOHC D16A1 like i said before

the Brown Top DOHC ZC does not make 130hp, only the Black Top OBD0 DOHC ZC makes 130, the Brown Top makes 115-120hp

I would rock a b16a1 in a 1 gen crx, I know there not a bolt in but everything is easy to get for the swap. If it wasn't a si I would also say dual side drafts

Hasport makes Bseries mounts, but tehre far from cheep, then all you have left is alot of wiring and axles and shift linkages

Hmmm.... VTEC did not exist in '86.... You've got your info wrong. From what I know the Brown top DOHC ZC will bolt up directly and the D16A1 will as well with some wiring changes and using your original motor mounts. The black top DOHC ZC will not fit without a serious amount of work. Someone else mentioned it earlier, but check out redpepper racing's website, lots of good info. Also, if you want to go with a ZC, check out http://www.thezcr.com. Good luck on the project.

alot of suspension stuff, bolt on's not so much. I would take a serious look at the chassis before dropping any money on a swap. 21 years old, alot of things will break on that classic.

your original motor is a EW4 or D15A3(same motor they just started calling it by the D15A3 in 1986)

summit racing has headers, intakes youll have to make one or cannabilize something else and make one, exhausts are gona be custom made unless you can find some old one laying around and put a new muffler on it

theres adj cam gears for it, lots of cams, the motor can be bored over 1mm and you can use 88+ Dseries Pistons, theres quite a bit of stuff, look on RedPepperRacing.com thoes guys have done everything

thats awesome...the only thing wrong with the stock motor is warped valves (timing belt broke)

oh and somebody stole my valve cover why the head was in the garage

Holy ****. Worse info EVER! I'm sigging that!

All integra engine from 86-87 will bolt up. That's the main 'bolt in' swaps. 86-89 SOHC don't have VTEC, EVER! Unless you swap the head. JDM SOHC brown top, doesn't exist. It's a DOHC brown top. It puts about 115hp, not 130. Only true JDM DOHC ZC black top make 130hp on the right ecu. That engine, does not fit, unless you custom a mount for the driver side mount.

You can swap a B series in with a HASport kit.

Hmmm.... I have heard that you can acctualy do a DOHC head swap with the EW motors, get a head gasket from a 86-87 Integra and compair it to the 85s, I don't know from experience but I heard it from a fairly reliable source and if it is true then you may just need the D16a1 head and you could make a sick DOHC frankinstien

Lets see if these pics work...

Here is an 85 civic:

and here is the 87 Teg:

best bet is to go to the parts store and hold them up next to each other

Cool i think i got them both to work now

They look very similar to me only some differences in the water jacket, are both these open deck motors? is fo it should work fine, just match the headgasket to the head

swaping a bseries isnt hard but its pretty Expensive

$550 for mounts
$350 for Axles
$300 for wiring
Bseries motor(GSR wont fit without a aftermarket intake manifold)
cut and welded Shift linkage
87 Integra Wheel Hubs or knuckles
Bseries ECU
90-93 Teg Clutch and Throttle cable(mabye 86-89 teg)
Alot of wiring changes on the motor and ECU side if you dont buy the stupid expensive hasport or rywire harness
If you want Vtec you will either need a RPM Switch a VAFC or, modify the VSS from the CRx HF cluster onto the back of yoru stock Si cluster then wire it to the ecu, so vtec will engauge
