Default DIY: Push Button Start

Well, I was updating my site just now with it and I thought I might throw it up here since there wasn't DIY sort on it when I looked for it and I hadn't seen one since.

Anyway, here's the link to my site: http://www.crxmpg.com/pushbuttonstart.html

It's better on my site but this is the thread I made on another forum as I was doing it:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Have you ever wanted a push button start? I randomly did so I randomly hooked it up, pretty simple. Generally done with an S2000 engine start button from the olde honda dealership, but I went with just a standard button to save 35 or so bucks.

Parts:
1 SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) Relay - 3.99 at my parts store
Some female quick connect ends - 2.99 at the parts store
Wire
Solder
1 Button of your choice

Tools:

Wire strippers and a screwdriver.

1. Check out this schematic and look at your SPDT relay, pretty simple. Figure out which wires are which and wire the stuff up.

2. Wire the **** in there crappily to make sure it works. Here’s mine half done:

Another shot with indications and all that on it.

3. Get your button and figure out how to mount it. I am going the way of small button skirted by washer and then mounted in my cigarette lighter hole. Here’s the washer pre mounting and painting. I hot glued, and burnt the **** out of my finger and leg.

4. I put this little cone over the button to paint the washer, o yeah.
5. Burn yourself.

6. Painted shots, looks decent to me:

7. Wrap your crippled, burning hand in wet stuff:

8. Mount up the button itself into the center console part.

Install will be finished tomorrow, piece of cake.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Update, finished the install with the new button, check it out:

Mine's for bling but you could hide the switch as a theft protection thing if you so wished.

Is the key still neccessary? Like do you have to turn the key all the way AND hit the button at the same time?

Put the key in run and hit the button. Turning it to 3 doesn't do anything. I didn't want to eliminate the key completely, though I've seen it done in show cars and such.
