you will gain beter number with and aftermarket manifold, and they are fairly cheap if you buy one used

To directly answer your question, ONLY the 94-01 GSR intake manifold will fit the 94+ Head. The skunk2, blox, etc are direct rip off designs of the Type R IM with a GSR flange though.

what do you mean secondary butterly?

gsr i.m has a second set of butterflies within the i.m. type r, blox and skunk2 design doesn't have it. Therefore, your stock ecu will continue to look for it even when you get an aftermarket i.m.

I would get a socketed p28 with the obd1 conversion, it will be useful down the road for tuning various modifications

On the p72 head, NONE of the other OEM intake manifolds will fit the p72 head. If you want to swap out the intake manifold, your only options are to go with a single stage intake manifold such as the skunk2, blox, aebs, jg victor x, etc. Those single stage intake manifolds are modeled after the ITR manifold, with little differences, bolt patterns, etc. Once you do change the manifold, it is recommended that you switch out the ecu since the p72 ecu looks for the iabs (secondary butterflies that are in the stock gsr IM). If your car is obd2, you can run an itr ecu, or you can get an obd2-1 conversion harness and get a chipped p28/p30/p61/etc. You'll have a wider range of tuning capabilities with an obd 1 ecu.

why get an obd1 ecu.....are they less fickle? and what is the difference between obd2-a and obd2-b? is it just the immobilizer?

obd1 ecus can be "chipped" for custom tunes, hondata, chrome, etc. this will allow you to cutom tune your motor once you have all your mods in place.

Just like mike-y said, OBD I ecus can be chipped easily whereas the OBD IIa/b's cannot. The plugs on the OBD IIa/b are different and some OBD IIbs do not have the immobilizer, thus there are other differences. Emissions got stricter and stricter over the years, thus the reason for the ECU changes, however I wouldnt call any of them "fickle" because none of them spaz out just for fun.
