Default bad mpg for a civic?

Ok my civic has a d16a6 which has pretty much alot of milage... Well winter is coming and since i started school. I dont have time to work so saving as much as i can is what i want to do. My car has 17in with 7.5 in thick so i figure that is one of the reasons why i have a much bad mpg. i usualy run around 200km (124.27 miles) and lower for around every 19liters(5,019) of gas which gives me a lousy 24.8 mgp( i drive mostly city and rarely in big traffic).. Since i have read some post and people getting aroun 35 mpg...thats a big gap. I am planing of changing the filter of my cold air intake. fuel filter, and my O2 sensor(by the way, can it break like a rusted bolt? if it was never changed?). Anything else i should change in the same time? The Cat maybe? I heard it gets cloged when its old.

p.s( i do have a heavy foot sometimes.)

Also should i need to change anything else? that would help for better mpg?

24 mpg with a heavy foot, in city driving... I dunno, it doesn't sound toooo bad to me. That is still better than what a lot of new domestic cars get on the highway.

<----Avg's mid 30's with JDM B18c and 4.7 final drive. I also drive mostly on back roads and occasionally on highways. When I had my D15b I avg'd upper 30's. I think I would be disappointed with anything in the 20's.

Yeah in my CRX, I drive almost completely on backroads, and on highways. I usually get mid 30's or so, even with me redlining it on the empty backroads somewhat often. When I drove to the mountains, I was in the 40+ mpg range (humming along with a LS tranny lol).

However the guy said he does city driving and floors it... In my opinion he isn't too far off of his mark, maybe could be a few mpg better though.

I dont floor it all the time. Usualy when i am in the bad mood or i just like to **** off bmw mercedes drivers or suvs. lets say 30% of the time. so usualy i drive on my 3rd gear under 3k (for crusing purpose). But i think i have bad O2 censor because my exaust silencer smels like if i poored gaz directly in. The car feels sometimes like it was running very rich other times very lean... That is why i am planning to change the O2. and normaly it suposed to last only 100k...my car has 200k+ i dont think they ever changed it.

Haha yeah well then that is definitely a good idea to change out the O2. I am sure that after doing that, you will see a noticeable difference.

With normal tools... how hard should it be to change it? Will it just break off? or it will unscrew after a godly amount of torque is aplied?

Mine was pretty stubborn to get off, but I think anyone should be able to remove the O2 sensor. If it doesn't come loose, drink a redbull, then try again. Trust me you can get it, especially if you slip a long bar over the wratchet's handle to get some leverage. A torque bar owns all, the one I have is ridiculously long and is probably able to tighten with one ton of force.

go drive the car around for awhile and heat up the manifold, o2 sensor comes out way easier. Withthe expanding and shrinking of metal it can be very difficult to get it out.
