i've been browsing online for racks but i'm having trouble figuring out if the specifications will be compatible with the itr's spoiler.

i'm looking for a trunk rack not a roof rack. if you guys know of any models/brands that work. let me know.

I would HIGHLY recommend against a trunk mounted rack for the DC2.

The glass where the hooks of the racks will latch on to simply isn't strong enough to support the load.

Roof racks are the way to go if you have to carry the bike externally.

If you must carry the bike behind the car, you may want to look at getting a trailer hitch installed and using a hitch mounted rack instead.

I've managed to carry 2 peoples worth of gear for a race day (2 bikes, 2 pairs of race wheels, 2 timbuk2 messenger bags and a trainer) in a CRX so stuffing all that (and then some) into a DC2 shouldn't be a problem. When I went to the first ITRexpo I had a set of R compound tires for the car, jack, air tank (I think), my bicycle, and a weeks worth of clothes both street and riding.

[Edit: "clothing" is meant to also include: full face helmet for the HDPE and a cycling helmet, driving shoes, cycling shoes, street shoes, driving gloves, cycling gloves, 7 to 8 days worth of street clothes, 7 to 8 days worth of cycling clothes, dopp kit and maybe a fleece or jacket in there...all I can remember for now.]

Just lay down a moving blanket to help protect the interior first.

You're correct. I have a Saris/CycleOps. It cant be done. The ITR hatch has a rubber weather strip which will tear if you even try it. I load my bike in the trunk!

 

definitely go with the roof... there are several companies that make quality roof racks for the DC.....my thule racks held up from NC to CA and back....and I don't drive all that slow.

 

are you going to carry bikes? you can just do it internally with seats fold down!

 

I had a trunk rack, it sucked, I couldn't sinch down the straps enough to be secure. I then got a Yakima roof rack and it's awesome. Now I just throw the bike in the hatch without folding the seat down. You can fit a couple this way, just have the front end hang over the back seat.

but you risk damaging the wires and the wheel. I'd rather not taking the risk

 

How would you damage the cables or the wheel? The frame layed sideways rests on the top of the back seats. The front wheel is removed and the rear can be left attached but no load is on the wheel, just the weight of the bike.

I see what you mean now... i thought u still have your front wheel on. my bad

 

I have yet to find myself in a situation where I have so much stuff to transport that it doesn't fit in the ITR.

I don't take bicycles, but even several bikes should be no problem for a car that can fit 13 track tires inside.

 

I was able to fit 3 or 4 bmx bikes fully assembled in the back of my old dc2 with the seats down.

You just have to be careful with the spokes and watch out that you dont mar the interior plastic or the headliner ( i always have rips in my headliners from handlebar ends.)

I just use a roof rack now. I get 2-4 mpg less with it, but it's worth it if you ride alot.
