Default advice on a motor

i have been challenged by a friend who ownes a tuning shop http://www.cwstuning.com to build a relatively quick motor nothing crazy that does not have vtec, turbo, super charger,or nitrous it has to be able to keep up with or beat a vr6 swapped 91 golf. here's what i have for an idea so far i need help on what may be better then what i have already come up with because i am more familar with vw's im just sick of there unreliability. ok i'll tell u what i have in mind and also ask a few questions on what im not sure of. Im gunna start with a b18b head get a really good port and polish different intake manifold a valve job and some small to medium size cams for the bottm end i was thinking of a b20 and bumping the compression ratio up,what would be a safe compression ratio to go with?. i was gunna go with just a ls tranny and a upgraded clutch.would i need to up the injector size with this set up or would i just be able to go with a adjustable regulator and a better pump?. i would of course throw on a header good exaust system, what would be the best size of piping to go with on this set up?,and probly a short ram intake with a k&n.i would be putting this into a ef civic.i will have 9g's to work with but that will also have to go into the car itself, susp, brake upgrade ect my friend's from the tuning shop and i will be doing all labour for free and he will be giving me all parts at his cost.and also what would be the best tune to go with for this set up. all comments and answer's are muchly apreciated.

you should post this in the all motor forum, they should be able to help you out more there. too bad you cant use vtec, that leaves a lot of honda motors out. first question, is the VR6 swap just a straight swap over, or is it a VRT, 12v, 24v? is it a stock motor or is it built. your chassis of choice would be a 88 hf crx as they are the lightest model of 2nd gen crx/ 4 gen civic. an ls tranny wont help you with acceleration, your gonna want a b16 tranny with LSD. you could go with the LS (1.8) block and then get one of the stroker kits and make it a 2.2 liter so that way you have more torque to compete with the VR6 6 cylinders. im not sure how bad the longer stroke would affect the rod/stroke ratio and the engines ability to rev. also, is this gonna be a daily driver kinda thing or just run on race gas? that will affect compresion ratio and what cams, tune, etc you get.
