Default 1987 Civic or CRX suspension questions.....

I have an 87 Civic with an 89 Integra motor in it,, my question is regarding suspension, the car came with tokico adjustable shocks but they are blown in the front, the shocks replacement cost is over 300 each (canadian) and that is with shop discount, is there any good performance shocks for this car that don't cost an arm and a leg??? and also what is the proper way to lower the front of the car? i have the bars adjusted to there lowest position but is there any way that i can take the torsion bar out and re-position it so is lower and stiffer??? tia .. sorry for the newbie questions....

Running un-shortened shocks with the front lowered with result in blown shocks whatever they are.

KYB GR2's are decent shocks that don't cost a lot. Re: the suspension questions, go to http://www.redpepperracing.com and read the FAQ, do a search for "lowering", and you should find everything you need. Oh, and welcome to both boards.

Not really. On a first gen you can remove the brake line bracket and mount the shock in lower.

Also before you dump it upgrade the torsion bars. You can remove them and turn from a groove to get it lower. You may have to file it to get it to fit in tho.

Look for a company called opm motorsports, they make thicker torsion bars, also, i believe the wagon had bigger torsion bars you could upgrade to.

GR-2s are junk. They are stock overhauls. From what I know you turn the bolts on the torsion bars to lower the front. Once they are tight, thats as low as it goes

why don't you send them to tokico or find a dealer who will handle the warranty. this should cost nothing but shipping fees.
