I have a stock EJ8 with a stock D16y8, with a short ram intake pipe. I was wondering, would it be to my advantage to install a K&N style breather on my valve cover?
What are the pros and cons?

It won't do anything. That port on the valve cover has both positive pressure and negative suction depending on a number of factors.
Basically, I'd leave the stock hose where it is. If you boost the motor, you'll want to put a breather there to help relieve blowby pressure. If you put a breather there on a stock motor, it will basically do nothing. It will actually hinder the crankcase ventilation a little bit, but probably not noticeably.
In a nutshell:
Pros: it looks cool
Cons: reduced crankcase circulation (not a big deal)
