Sounds like the linkage pin (or lack thereof) is the issue.

my linkage is non adjustable, and i couldnt get the pin back in so we used a nut and bolt and they are both still there... i can shift into every gear but once it is in gear i can move the shifter the whole way over to the other side and still be in gear and i can take it out of gear and put it in the gear it needs to go in however 5th and reverse are hard to get to i have to go over really far.... and also the linkage is called race tech it came with my mounts i dont know how good they are and i hit my exhaust when i put it in the the actual part that moves i cut off the back or like the balance wieghts i guess they are and im thinking thats the problem but i dont know im thinkin about just gettin hasport linkage i just want to make sure it not the tranny

It's the bolt then. Get a roll pen and a screwdriver that's just the right size and nail it!
