Ls vtec: crank girdle?

Ls vtec: crank girdle?
What is a crank girdle? will it help the block at higher rpm?
I've heard to install the crank girdle, then a GSR/ITR oil pick up, windage tray and oil pan would be swaped over to the ls block? Is it a driect bolt on? or you'll have to machine it?
