Default 99 B16a transmission issues... chipped up housing??

Well, my transmission is in bad shape so I got it over to a local shop to see what can be done. This is a photo of the inside of the housing.

Any opinions on what could have caused this?

Looks as if the trans needs all new bearing, syncros, and maybe a new housing?? Is it even worth fixing?

it shouldnt hurt anything, it doesnt look like it will affect the strength, but its hard to say what caused it

sometimes people purposely do this for clearance on some lsd and diff app's. it's what it looks like to me, unless there is scratches like gears stripped and got thrown around causing those breaks.

Yeah it looks like it was clearanced for a LSD. Those ar ethe exact areas you have to grind down to get a ITR LSD to fit in the case.

I have a Quaife LSD in there, I'm not sure if they needed to grind down the fins for that.. Could it be from the diff moving around and hitting them? There were fairly large chunks of Aluminum in the trans when it was taken apart.

quite possible. something was catching, hence the breaks. and i would have thought maybe someone didn't have a grinder and just broke the pieces but they were in the trans...so the diff did it.

that same thing happened to me when I broke my b16 diff. I brake cleaned it, replaced the broken diff, and it was good as new. A new case is not needed at all...

I would grind them down completely then clean out the case. You should have no issues at all with those areas ground down.

PS...Who put the LSD in?

Hey I found the install instructions I was looking for. Look at the link below. He shows what needs to be done to the case to get the needed clearence for an LSD.

PS...I know this is not the right year tranny case, though it still will be the same.
