Tips for 22" slicks?
Making the move from BFg drag radials to a set of 22x8x15" slicks and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on breaking them in or tips on use in general?
Also what tire pressure do most of you run with 22" slicks? I know 24.5" most poeple recommend starting at 9 psi and working down but I am wondering how the shorter sidewall of the 22x15's will impact this?
Hoping I can dip in to the 1.7 60ft range as I was getting 1.8's with 205/50 radials.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hmm this is encouraging news. Sounds like I will be starting at 9-10psi and experimenting from there.
While I would love a sub 1.7 60 ft I am not counting on it. I am hoping that with a better 60ft and the shorter height giving a boost to gearing I can drop my times down a little more. Still searching for that elusive 11. Probably going to need some more power but hopefully the slicks will get me close.
Thanks

Find a way to swap to 5x100 and I will let you borrow them
Hoping to try these out at Atco tonite. I will be sure to post my results.

definetly do, i would love to see an 11 second pass out of that thing. i have never driven a supercharged VR, but my understanding is it is much like an NA VR as far as torque and power goes untill you get into the higher revs. i would make 5000rpms your STARTING launch point and go from there accordingly. as you know, im launching my NA car on 22x8x13s at 6500+ but you do make a considerable bit more power. make sure to update, and get video if possible
as others have alraedy said, 10psi is a good starting point for air pressure

10psi is good, lower is better till about 8psi on them. After that there's just not enough sidewall on the 15 and you'll lose trap without gaining short track. Don't forget to do a nice 2nd gear burnout with them as well and dry hop them to get them clean. I cut 1.74-1.75 on these consistenly with probably a lot less power and a car about the same weight so I think you could do better. Launching higher and spinning em is better on the driveline, I kept breaking **** until I did it high enough to just barely spin the tires and keep it from bogging.
i would actually like to see you on a 24.5
i dont know how you are hooking up on a radial like that because my all motor vr6 with 250 ftlbs is spinning all of 1st gear with a 23x8x13. anyways, as stated before try 10 psi 1st for sure, and if does not work the 1st time dont just automaticaly lower the pressure, try to get some passes on like that but make sure you check the tire pressure after your 1st pass. how are you launching on those radials?

not to hijack, but ive got a bit more sidewall with 22x8x13s, should i go below 8psi with them?
secondly, and on topic, what is this about dry hopping? obviously, this is just "mock launching" before you make it to the staging lanes, but i've always been under the impression that this would do more harm than good. why would the tires have any dirt on them after doing the burnout? i usually spin just outside of the water untill it starts to grab, and then let the handbrake down and continue to spin untill its hooking. please explain deeper for me

I don't know how well they'll respond under 8psi but I swear Joe was running the 13" 23's down into the 7's before but I'm not sure where he really settled in with that combo. It might be worth getting in touch with him and trying to hash that out, or just wait here and try and see if someone running the 13" version here has more experience. There's a lot more people here running the smaller wheels like you then the VW crowd.
I always have done a single dry hop on the slicks, it gets all the little ***** of slick rubber off the tire before you try and launch it. With a small tire like a 22/23 I never had trouble doing it, just make sure it's in 1st and you get at least on revolution of the tires. I know a lot of people that do it, a bunch that don't, so you have to see what works best with your setup.

thanks for the quick response man. like i said, i know i have seen people dry hop em, but i never have because i didnt really understand why they were doing it. i havnt gone below 8psi personally, i usually end up around 8.5ish or so at the lowest. hopefully someone else will chime in with experience with the 22x8x13 and give some more insight
I wouldn't go too nuts with it until you get that trans/clutch/axles in there. I really started breaking stuff at sub 1.75 60s mostly passenger side driveshafts right at the spline going into the CV.
peloquin , 3.94 and clutchnet 6-puck are all in now. drove it for the first good time today and its great
best 60ft with the tranny BONE stock was a 1.75, so hopefully i can beat that tommorow
