Why do you care who has done it? It is possible to swap the gears, and that's all that matters right? There's no trick to it.

The gearing would be exactly the same as a 98 Spec FD in a USDM ITR/96 Spec trans, which is a very common setup.

No, all USDM ITR's have the 4.4 FD, only the JDM 98+ have the 4.7 FD.

Yes, you can put the 4.7 JDM FD, 4.9 ATS FD or 5.0 (IIRC) Cusco FD.

if 118 is the top speed 80 mph is going to be hell. With my JDM FD 80 was like 5k and I could hit like 140 still.

If your top speed is 118 I would imagine you would be around 6.5K rpm at 80

I'm thinking of doing the same thing.....

be forewarned, however: a 4.4 or 4.7 final drive would go better with the mfactory gears.....

Reason I'm considering going this low is because I only see the freeway once a week, and only for 3 more months (then im gradumacated) I only currently work 10 minutes from home. I like to drag race (track only) and am looking to get into auto x. If I do get into hpdes what top speed do you guys generally see?

I posted in haste earlier... like I said, I'm almost finished and will give you some driving impressions... but riding at 5800 rpm at 80mph will kind of suck for commuting.. heh

If you have the ***** (and I hope you do), then go for it!

Close gearset and stock FD would work nice if you drive it everyday.

Whenever Spring decides to roll around next year I'll be running the MFactory close gear set and SRR 4.71 FD in my D16. (1.000 5th is the same as B series 5th for a gearset).

you'd be better off with a 4.266 LS final with the mfactory gears IMO.

i dunno why you guys are posting all these tranny questions in the ITR forum.

that is actually much more ideal and livable... but the problem is the $$$ of the motor that must be mated to it.....

it would be cheaper to just let the engine sit at high rpms while cruising and rebuild it more often, and pay the extra gas lost than to swap in a K

it's not like the factory itr gearing is very mild. ****, it's like 4450 @ 80 already.

To the question of top speed on track at HPDEs, it's higher than 118 for sure. At Summit Point, relatively stock ITRs (stock tranny, maybe 4.9FD) regularly hit ~125mph. I hit over 120mph easy with a B20 and GSR tranny, and I'm getting rolled on the straights by R's. At longer tracks like VIR, the speeds would obviously be higher.

Ahh. There's that extra oomph everybody says you have.

I have a Type S with 4.8 mated to my K motor. It's OK...but not awesome.
