Default What do you think?

I found a 2002 R6 that I am thinking about purchasing. Im 19 and full coverage is close to $9,000.00 a year - obviously too much. I am thinking about just getting liability and personal injury which is $250.00 a month. Do you guys think Im crazy to have a new R6 without full coverage? If someone hits me their insurance will pay but if i go down on my own, hopefully repairs wont be too much.

I'm 20 and they Progressive quoted me at $4,500 a year full coverage. You must have a bad driving record. I have no points and have been driving for about 4 years now.

2002 YZF-R6 = High Insurance

That's my dream bike, well actually a red Ducati 748 is.

Jeez you guys. For me to add a 750 cc anything was going to be 1000 a year full coverage, plus 250 a year life insurance policy. Ask them if they will give you a break if you get a life insurance policy with the bikes insurance policy. State farm does it I know, probably other companies will too. Guess the general idea is you are probably going to die if you get in a wreck so bad they have to fix the bike!!!!

Ditto, shop around.... it will never be cheap, but you could get a better price. Especially if you do something like classify it as a recreational vehicle (<7500mi/yr), of course you need to have a primary vehicle on the policy...

Given your age and the performance potential of the bike, any insurance co. considers it a crapshoot that you won't ball it up. Even if nothing is your fault and you some how low-side it, with just cosmetic damage. Consider that the complete plastics for the R6 run about $3k to replace from a dealer.

the r1 is one of the insurance top 10 for being stolen/wrecked. the r6 being its smaller twin brother is taking some of the heat as well. Check on the f4/zx6r as they are not known to be the killer track bike in street clothing like the suzuki/yamaha's.

I would bet you could get cheaper rates on em as well.

I would say yes, you are crazy to not carry full coverage on a bike YOU DO NOT OWN. If it's paid for, then have at it..... you only have to worry about being obligated to the person you hit, not the person who loaned you the money for the bike.

On a side note for full coverage on my 95 f3, state farm wanted 4500/yr full coverage and that did not include medical. They did not offer medical to florida cyclists till the helmet laws state you have to carry 10k bodily injury to ride without a helmet. I havent checked since then on insurance prices... I could total my bike once a year, buy a new one and still break even to what i would pay for insurance...

No I don't think your crazy. If you were not to pay full coverage insurance just think what the $6000 you would save could fix if the bike went down. I only have liability on my bike. But the max, not worried about the bike but I am worried if I'm injured. 98 CBR 900 $220 a year liability only.

Im going to try a few more but if I cant find a better rate im just going to get liability and personal injury. The salesman at the Yamaha dealer said that Yamaha doesent require full coverage if the bike is under $10,000.00.
