Hey guys, I got a 99ls 5-speed ,sri, thats it and i wanted to know what can I do to get my 3rd gear a little more *****, Any ls driver knows 1st is nice 2nd u feel ur losing power then u hit 3rd and ur like am i still moving. So if anyone can give me some nice mods to beef up 3rd gear thanx.

and dont say boost im sick to my stomach from hearing about how i sould boost on here

swap the tranny lol you can get a good condition gs-r one 400-600 dollars. Just search on here youll find someone

if turbo or fully built i say stick with the LS tranny

if you spend the money and the time to be turbo or fully built and you restrict your setup by sticking with an ls tranny....I say seek mental therapy

dude tell me about it, My boy has a type-r i know hell **** on me but i *** around with him. Weel launch and 1st im almost with him 2nd hes halfway down the strip, then when im in 3rd he is home showerd and in bed. I dont even want to get into what happens in 4th-5th

ya iv bin lookin for a b16 or gsr tranny for a wile cant find a hydro one keeps a heads up for me

a set of 303 cams. friend had those cams in his Ls and he pulled on Gsr left and right. That **** car was some torqUEy ***** w/ those cams.

Not to start a flamefest, but I was wondering what you meant by that. I've read and heard many times that a LS tranny is one of the best for Turbo due to longer gears.

Well it depends what your are going for NA or Turbo. If going NA go for the JDM ITR tranny. I have that tranny right now and my **** burns rubber like a bat out of hell, but it sucks to drive around town, because you go through the gears so quickly. It wastes gas because your on 5th driving down the hightway at 4500rpm at 90mph. It is a great enthusiat tranny especially if you get the LSD with it.

Yeah really
If you want a better 3rd gear do a transmission swap.

 

Dont turn this into a ******* "Longer gears are better for turbo" thread.

Basically he wants to know what to do, and the best/easiest option is a replacement gsr/b16/itr trans. b16 and ITR being the same, except the diff of course. For street driving, the GSR is more then suitable for ANY ls setup you can dish out.

Another option would be a final drive, however that is much more labor intensive.
