Air-conditioning problem
I have a 93 Civic Ex and I observed some weird things from my A/C. I don't think this is a freon problem because when it works, it is very cold. My problem is the A/C seems to toggle between working and non-working in cycles, like it will work for 10 minutes then it will stop working for 10 minutes and it will work again. I wonder if it is because of the compressor and the clutch inside quit working by spinning freely. When it works, the idle speed is 800 rpm which is normal but when it fails, the idle speed jumps to 1500 rpm which I think the compressor is not dragging on the engine (not spinning with the belt? or I don't know how it works...)
Please advice me where the problem is with my A/C system? Thanks a lot.

Not quite what you're looking for, but this was pretty helpful to me as far as troubleshooting the A/C.

Gee thanks for your input. His question was how to FIX what he has, not how to give up, think like a 16 year old who just got a car and rip out one of the few nice creature comforts these econoboxes have in the first place.

Thanks for the helpful info. But do you think it is my compressor? I didn't notice this problem in Fall or Winter until the summer which becomes very noticable even the A/C stops for 30 sec.

it sounds like your evaporator may be freezing up, then 10 minutes later after it heats up it begins working again. You could have a stuck open thermal expansion valve.

Where is that part located? Can it be cleaned or I have to replace it?
Are you referring to part number #14? (link below)
