Oil Smell Coming from Car
I have recently been smelling a Brunin Oil scent coming from my Car (2000 Honda Civic Si w/ Built GSR Motor) I'll usually start smelling it in mid RPM's and the smell will get stronger if I get on it and hit Vtec. I've checked my Oil and the Level is good, doesn't look like I'm leaking Oil at all. Another thing I have noticed is once I start my Car after its been sitting for a long time (overnight) One large puff of Smoke will come out of my Exhast once I start it. Car runs great, no bogging, not oo much smoke when Im driving, and like I said, I dont see any visible Oil Leaks. I had a problem like this before and what it ended up being was that I had my Oil Catch Can Hooked up. The Black PVC Box in the back of the Block would overflow and slowly leak Oil. We found this out when my Car was being tuned because a crazy amount of smoke was made during the Tune and tuner noticed the Catch Can was hooked up wrong. Moved around the Hoses and that solved the problem - no more Oil Burning Smells. Right now the Catch Can is on correct and I can't seem to figure out whats wrong with it. Any help is appreciated.

um, that puff of smoke... is water vapor, pretty much every car nowadays with a cat does that so know that first.
secondly, if you have spilt anything on the motor itself that will do it, also a leaking crankcase vent will also produce a foul oil burning smell this is most common when people take the exhaust brace off the block, and dont realize that this also unfastens the crankvent, causing it to leak. it doesnt always happen, but it can be a cause, also, if you did the "little breather filter on the valve cover" mod, the stink can be coming from there too.
catch cans are almost pointless for DOHC motors, because there is a metal plate right before the breather tube hole that would block any oil residue that would happen to splash up that way in the first place, you dont need that, all you need is a vacuum line running to the intake tube from the valve cover and from the crank vent to the intake manifold up top. this creates a complete loop that sucks foul air out, and allows fresh air in, if you smell it, odds are its not getting cycled out, and your crank vent is not working, either because its broken, or its hooked up wrong.
There is nothing cool about a catch can on that motor anyways, doesnt need one.

Yea, I do have theat little Filter thing on my Valve Cover. That could be why then. didnt really know all that about a Catch Can. Wish I knew it before I dropped 100 bucks on a Cusco one. Thanks for the help man.
