Default Want to Buy a Stolen R1?

Think maybe it's stolen? I guess that doesn't explain the title in hand but everything else seems super shady.

http://washingtondc.craigslist....html

2001 Yamaha R1 Blue - $4500

serious buyers ONLY... <U>selling " AS IS "</U> 16,376 mi title is free & clear no lien, <U>someone tried to steal it but they only got up to popping the ignition switch ( i have a brand new one w/a new set of keys )</U>, no accidents, never been drop, a few cosmetic scratches, added Scott Damper, no major mods only change (recently ) brake lines, chain & sprocket 1 up & 2 down, air filter ( K&N ), & spark plugs ( NGK )... it needs a major tune up... I have some extra parts & accessories ( too many to list ) $4,500 CASH ONLY or CHECK but we have to go to your bank first to cash it right away... as of August 14,2006 Kelly Blue Book Value is $6,400 check it out http://www.kbb.com thanks for stopping by...

Hmm... He could be legit!

I would do a Cash Only deal like he is asking if I was selling anything Smaller. It is also common for bikes to almost get stolen, I had a friend who had his steering lock/ignition busted, I guess the Thief's still could not get it to run after putting something down the key hole, so they slashed the tires!

The title can explain it all!

It's entirely possible that it is legit. Someone offered me a 2003 R1 for less than the "blue book value" the guy mentions for the 2001 in the ad.

Have him meet you at the dmv with title in hand and verify it and your good to go. you can check the vin to see if its stolen. i think its legit i dont think anyone would try to sell a stolen bike online

my buddies brother picked up a running 1999 r1 in surprisingly decent condition for 800 bucks off craigslist. The main thing it needed was tires, he just flipped it and made a nice chunck of change from it.

the bike is going to be 6 years old. has 17k miles on it, has scratches on body, needs "major tune up"

i dont think the price is so low i would think stolen. maybe just a good deal? but i would make sure on any deal cheap or not title in hand or can show me registration in his name.
